Coalition Supporting Federal Funding for Transit Grows to Over 80 Members
Getting America To Work adds 10 new members, Continues to Grow and Increase Its Efforts to Secure Critical Funding for Transit Projects
Washington, D.C. – Getting America to Work has increased its membership to more than 80 transit agencies, associations, business groups and councils of government in an effort to support increased federal funding for repairs and replacement to our nation’s transportation systems.
Getting America to Work is a bipartisan coalition committed to securing funding for critical investments in the country’s bus and rail systems. These investments will help preserve and create the jobs and economic development transit supports.
Existing federal funding is not sufficient to maintain and replace our nation’s aging trains, buses, bridges and stations, which will lead to more delays and congestion and result in less productivity for businesses.
“Every dollar spent on transit generates an economic return of four to one, providing jobs and improving transit performance,” said Joe Costello, Executive Director of the Northeastern Illinois Regional Transportation Authority and founding member of the transit advocacy group Getting America to Work. “Keeping our public transit systems up-to-date would not only improve commutes but provide significant economic benefits.
“Its no secret that transit agencies across the nation are in desperate need of more capital funding from Congress in order to bring their assets and infrastructure into a state of good repair,” Costello continued. “As our membership continues to grow, Getting America to Work will have an even broader reach in our nation’s communities and on Capitol Hill.”
This summer, 10 transit agencies joined the 75 members of Getting America to Work, including:

Getting America to Work (GATW) is a broad coalition of commuters, businesses, officials and transportation agencies that support vital investments in public transit.
