Joins Getting America To Work
Washington, D.C. – Getting America To Work (GATW) today announced that the Georgia Transit Association (GTA) has become the 100th organization to join the coalition since its establishment in March 2013.
Getting America To Work is a growing national coalition of transit agencies, business groups and councils of government working to support increased federal funding for our nation’s transportation systems. It is committed to securing funding for critical investments that preserve and create jobs and economic development in countless rural, urban, and suburban communities.
“The need for increased investment in Georgia’s transportation infrastructure has never been greater,” said Robert Hiett, president of GTA. “The Georgia Transit Association is eager to work with Getting America To Work’s national coalition of transit agencies to urge our elected officials in Washington to pass legislation that brings our public transit networks into a state of good repair and stimulates economic growth.”
Getting America To Work will be on Capitol Hill in the coming weeks advocating for quick consideration of a long-term transportation bill during the lame-duck session or in early 2015. “We are pleased that GTA is formally joining our efforts. The beginning of a new Congress gives GATW an excellent opportunity to reignite the debate over national transportation policy and educate new members on the importance of public transit to local economies,” said Leeann MacWilliams, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association and Getting America To Work member.
